MUHAMMADJAN RAHIMI LITERARY MUSEUM

The house-museum of Mohammadjon Rahimi was established on May 14, 1969. First, it was located on Rudaki Avenue (Rudaki, 56, room 8) in the center of Dushanbe. In 1969, after the death of the poet, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan took into account the services of the poet Muhammadjon Rahimi for the development of Soviet poetry, scientific services and the restoration of the Soviet government, and in order to perpetuate the memory of the poet, they turned his house into a museum. Because of the poet lived and created in this modest house from 1966 to 1968, that is, until the end of his life. In 2017, due to the construction of urban planning by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the house-museum of M. Rahimi was moved to Rudaki Avenue near the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, and after the relocation, it was transformed from the "House-Museum of Muhammadjon Rahimi" to the "Literary Museum of Muhammadjon Rahimi" and opened its doors to the visitors on April 10, 2018. Muhammadjon Rahimi Museum as a literary and cultural monument presents the colorful and memorable pages of the poet's life.

Muhammadjon Rahimi’s Literary Museum consists of four rooms, the first room is a working room; second room contains literary heritage; the third room is the library; the fourth room is the poet's personal belongings, where the audience can get to know the life and activities of this historical figure.

In the "Mohammedjon Rahimi’s Literary Museum" there are works created by the poet, orders and medals, paintings and portraits of different eras, the poet's tools, Arabic handwritten books, the poet's library, which contains of more than 2000 books. Also 134 exhibits, all of which are still neat and tidy.

An important aspect of the museum's activity is the promotion of the work of the famous Tajik poet M. Rahimi.  In this field, the museum staff always provides visitors with interesting information about the poet's life on scheduled working days. It is worth mentioning that this presentation was also conducted through audio and video. Every year the staff of Muhamadjon Rahimi Literary and Memorial Museum helped to celebrate the Poet's birthday with the participation of teachers and students.

Muhammadjon Rahimi is considered one of the most productive, experienced and famous poets of Tajikistan, and occupies a prominent position in the history of modern Tajik literature with his creativity.

Muhammadjon Rahimi was born in 1901 in the village of Foiki, Shofirkom district, Bukhara region. His father, Abdurahim, was an artist. At the age of 12, the poet was sent to primary school, which he graduated in 1917. In the same years of schooling and apprenticeship, as a result of reading works of classic Tajik literature, he gradually developed a passion for reading and reciting poetry.

Rahimi gained talent in creative work and conducted exercises in the field of poetry. "Although I," writes M. Rahimi, when I was still young and a schoolboy, I read the ghazals of Hafiz, Saadi, Bedil and the quatrains of Umar Khayyam, and I was fascinated by poetry, as a devoted lover... I fell on the path of poetry and practiced poetry since 1918, but until revolution of Bukhara, apart from some small poems, I could not bring anything correct to the field".

The poem "Tillokamaron" written in 1919 by Rahimi raised his voice for the first time.

M. Rahimi knew well a classical music, and in our time he has a valuable share in reviving the precious heritage of "Shashmaqom". With his direct participation, this precious heritage was organized and he prepared the text of 254 six-level tunes and the text of three volumes of Tajik folk tunes.

Muhammadjon Rahimi is one of the best connoisseurs of the Tajik literary language and its classical literature. The main editing of "Tajik-Russian Dictionary" written by M. Rahimi is finished, it is of great importance in the development of today's Tajik literary language. He participated in the editing of the three-volume explanatory dictionary of the Tajik language. The number of all scientific and artistic works edited and prepared for publication by our beloved poet reaches more than 90 titles. We master the painstaking work of compiling or editing a dictionary from countless dictionaries of different languages ​​of the world.

The Tajik-Russian dictionary edited by him can hardly be described as a guide, it truly remains a bridge connecting two banks of a huge river. In addition, he is one of the best film translators, and the translation of the texts of more than forty films belongs to Rahimi. In the years of the Great Patriotic War, he also wrote a role entitled "Child of Tajikistan", which was filmed in the same years and was successfully shown in the cinemas of our country, Iran, India and Arabia. He also translated the work of A. S. Pushkin's "Boghchasarai Fountain" and the story of V. Mayakovsky "V. I. Lenin" into Tajik. The two-volume selection of Ferdavsi's Shahnama, Baba Tahir Hamadani's couplets, Jami's selection and Bedil's Rubaiyot were also prepared for publication by M. Rahimi.

The heritage of M. Rahimi has left us is worth and deserves immense appreciation. The government of the republic understood this very well, and made his house a holy place, and it still holds its value.
